MastaTEX Concrete on a roll: the smart choice for fast installation

mastaTEX Concrete on a roll: the smart choice for fast installation

mastaTEX Concrete is a geotextile product that is flexible and lightweight to install, yet sets hard with the addition of an embedded concrete mix. This makes it the ideal solution for sites where trucking in premixed concrete is simply not practical.

In applications where a hard armour approach isn’t required such as lining channels and swales, mastaTEX Concrete offers a reliable long-term erosion control measure. Only the minimum site preparation is required and the concrete-impregnated geotextile fabric is easy to roll out into a trench, hydrate with water from a water cart, and leave to dry naturally.

mastaTEX Concrete offers contractors the perfect solution for difficult, remote sites and areas with limited access. In locations where no local concrete batching plant is available, this geotextile product can be shipped in easily on a truck and installed at your convenience.

The flexible solution for tricky sites

concrete on a rollmastaTEX Concrete is a composite geotextile made from a layer of concrete-sand mix embedded between two layers of needle-punched geotextile.

This sandwich-style manufacturing process combines the strength of concrete with the flexibility of a soft geotextile fabric, meaning contractors can deliver faster projects by eliminating time-consuming premixed concrete delivery, pouring and placement.

mastaTEX Concrete on a roll is ready for use within 24 hours (however full curing time is achieved after 28 days). With the initial set time of just 24 hours, you can return to site the next day and continue with planting out the surrounding landscaped areas, without the inconvenience of large slabs of soft, curing concrete to contend with.

An easy 5 step installation

1. Roll the geotextile out into the trench

Taking advantage of a geotextile lifting device fitted to an excavator or loader, dispense the mastaTEX Concrete in the same way you would pull paper towel off a roll. Always install it with the geomembrane side facing down.

concrete matting installationIf no dispensing device is available, mastaTEX can be installed by hand, however this method will naturally take longer. And, if your project covers a large area and requires multiple rolls, simply overlap the edges like roof tiles, starting at the lower end of the watercourse and overlapping against the slope. Always anchor the geotextile at the top.

2. Lay it flat without wrinkles

It’s important to install mastaTEX Concrete without any folds - you can do this by preparing the site thoroughly with an even trench profile, and creating a smooth surface without large rocks to provide a good base for installation.

3. Hydrate joins

Once the geotextile is in position, it’s time to hydrate it, starting with overlapped areas. These can be sprayed with extra water to ensure they adhere to any adjoining layers. Once wet, the geotextile will still be flexible for a few hours which allows minor adjustments to be made.

4. Hydrate the entire area of mastaTEX Concrete

After wetting any joins in the product, spray it with water using a 1:2 ratio of water to mass. After an hour, spray it again to ensure it is adequately hydrated.

5. Leave to cure for 24 hours

It’s important not to move mastaTEX Concrete once the curing process has begun - curing begins in 90 minutes with the product fully hardened within 24 hours. After 28 days, it reaches its full strength potential in 28 days.

Where to use mastaTEX Concrete

This versatile concrete-impregnated geotextile is ideal for channels, swales, landscaping projects and erosion control applications where hard armour is unnecessary.

Projects such as constructing embankments, replacing shotcrete, lining bunds and stabilising slopes can all benefit from the ease and convenience of mastaTEX Concrete, which comes in 80mPA strength and various roll sizes and thicknesses.
